Tucson Residents Have Solutions

We have solutions for the Densified 4G/5G so-called “small” Wireless Telecommunications Facilities (sWTFs) that are invading our residential neighborhoods!

We are working with the top experts in the country and we are submitting a protective Wireless Telecommunications Facilities (WTFs) Ordinance for the City of Tucson on Mar 8, 2021 to fulfill the City Council’s request of the City Manager on Feb 23, 2021. As soon as we complete it, I will add a link to that the Tucsonans’ WTF Ordinance right here → https://wiretucson.org/solutions/peoples-wtf-ordinance/.

There are many cities across the country that are encouraging the Closing the Digital Divide using Fiber Optics to the Premises (FTTP). This broadband option solves many problems inherent in the current strategy: 4G/5G wireless infrastructure. FTTP is much faster, safer, more secure, more reliable and much, much more energy-efficient, for those who care about Tucson’s environment and carbon footprint.

Tucson’s new WTF Ordinance must consider both wired broadband and wireless telecommunication services. Importantly the two are NOT functionally equivalent services, per the 1996 Telecommunications Act (1996-TCA).

Chattanooga, TN decided to invest in FTTP, and they now have the fastest city-wide internet speeds in the country. A recent analysis concluded that Chattanooga’s FTTP network has generated $2.7 billion to the the city over the past decade.

Did you know all that telephone customers the U.S. invested in the upgrade of copper to fiber optic from the early 1990s through 2021 (we contributed monthly — and still do — on our phone bills for that upgrade) but over $500 Billion was stolen/diverted by Big Telecom to build out their private Wireless infrastructure, instead?

The underlying fiber optic network for FTTP i s a public utility asset and we should all benefit by bringing the fiber optics all the way to the residences and businesses. Doing so would solve many of the problems with 4G/5G wireless infrastructure and decrease the size and power output of the equipment used in the highly-intrusive invasion into our neighborhoods.

  • Public Fiber Optics – undergrounded or on-the-pole public fiber optic is a safer, faster, more secure and reliable choice for upgrading Internet speeds for Tucson’s residents.
  • UNDERGROUND wireline broadband provides information service that does not get destroyed in fires, does not fall victim to easy surveillance/security problems, does not cause property damage in inclement weather and does not cause property value losses due to Wireless Telecommunications Facilities (WTFs) in close proximity to homes.
  • FTTP also eliminates any possible violations of the American Disability Act, harm to workers in commercials districts, students, elderly, and tourists.
  • Public fiber optics are a city asset and within local jurisdiction.
  • Let’s install fiber optic in public UNDERGROUND conduit and on Utility poles to maintain the aesthetics of a city and not diminish the appeal of our city to new businesses.
